Live, Love and Play in Wilton Manors, Florida

Wilton Manors Florida a.k.a. Island City or WilMaA popular area for gays to live, love and play in South Florida is Wilton Manors.  Located a few miles north of Downtown Fort Lauderdale and a few miles east of Fort Lauderdale Beach, the city of Wilton Manors is surrounded by water and thus was aptly nicknamed “Island City”.  The gays on the other hand call the area “WilMa”.

Incorporated in 1947, Wilton Manors was once a modest, sleepy town that wasn’t aging well.  Recently, the area has experienced tremendous economic revitalization – thanks mostly to aesthetic-friendly gays, which has boosted both commercial and residential property values.  Homes in the area range from 1940’s bungalows to more contemporary two-story single-family houses, townhomes and condos.

The colorful and quirky Wilton Drive is the city’s signature thoroughfare.  This unique road features award-winning restaurants, entertainment, shopping, a chic nightlife and more – all in a pedestrian and gay-friendly setting.

Wilton Manors also offers several recreational and open space options, many of which are located along Middle River — a scenic stretch of water that flows through Greater Fort Lauderdale to the Atlantic Ocean.  One of the more popular parks is Colohatchee Nature Park, which features a nature observation boardwalk, dog park and a boat ramp — all on over 9 acres of land.

With lazy rivers, swaying palm trees, a gay-friendly atmosphere, ambient temperatures, sunshine abound and lots of entertainment options, its no wonder Wilton Manors has become a gay hotspot.
