Driving down Kahala Avenue it sometimes seems as if every other house along the beach is owned by someone, or some company, from Japan. But statistics show that only 5 percent of all the residential real estate sales on Oahu last year were to buyers from outside the 50 United States.
That translates to 353 Oahu homes and condominiums sold to people from other countries, and U.S. territories such as Guam. Title Guaranty put the numbers together using data from the state Bureau of Conveyances.
Their data show that 18 homes statewide last year were sold to Australians, that 11 homes on Oahu and the Big Island were sold to people from China and another 15 to people from Hong Kong.
