Saint Louis City Neighborhoods

Beautiful example of stained glass window in Tower Grove East home

This is a great example of a gorgeous stained glass window on the front door of a victorian Tower Grove East home.

St Louis and St. Louis City is home to a significant number of GLBT and communities.  The City of St. Louis, which runs along the Mississippi River has resurrected itself to be one of the most open GLBT communities in the US (Advocate 2011).

When I moved here 25 years ago, I found myself in the midst of a city that was trying very hard to revive from the white flight issues of the earlier years; however, today St. Louis City has made a huge turnaround over the past 15 years, and is a more desirable place to live than ever before.

With a huge array of world class restaurants, sports venues, theatre, St. Louis Symphony, numerous arts venues and museums not to forget it’s fantastic parks and the world famous Botanical Gardens, it seems there isn’t enough time to do everything there is to do here.  St. Louis is also a very economical city to live in, with a low cost of living.

You can also get an incredible home here for a very reasonable price.  There are miles of wonderful brick homes from the victorian era that have been renovated and still have original interior charm.  Some of these have been renovated into more contemporary spaces.

St. Louis has many walkable neighborhoods close to parks, such as Tower Grove, Lafayette, Soulard, the Central West End, the Italian Hill and many more.  The City of St. Louis also is home to a huge basis of employment with institutions such as Barnes Jewish Hospital, Washington University and St. Louis University just to name a few.

The GLBT social scene here is vast and diverse with a great new area called “The Grove” which is somewhat like Boys Town in Chicago and is desirable for all lifestyles.  St. Louis is indeed rich with cultural options.  I have always felt that St. Louis is a “hidden jewel” which I hope to help others discover.   I love showing off this wonderful city!
