Home prices in the U.S. dropped in November, the third consecutive month for them to do so according to the Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller home price index.
The decline isn’t unusual for fall, which typically follows the peak buying season. But prices were still down compared to the same time in 2010.
Portland home prices declined more sharply than the national average. Prices here fell 1.6 percent, making them 4.8 percent lower than they were in November 2010. Nationwide, prices fell 1.3 percent in November 2011, leaving them 3.7 percent lower than the year earlier.
