Some Allegheny County homeowners could be facing a double-digit tax increase during the next round of court-ordered property reassessments in 2012 — and it’s possible that they could take an even bigger hit if the county does the new assessments in the middle of the year.
A source inside the county office told Team 4 investigative reporter Paul Van Osdol that they have already seen some property values triple under a new preliminary assessment.
In addition, a new report by the state Revenue Department shows Allegheny County homes are selling for an average of 17 percent more than their assessed values.
