The parade just keeps getting shorter. In a sign of the times for the homebuilding market, one of the top local marketing events for new homes throughout the metro area will have to make do with fewer entries this fall.
The Builders Association of the Twin Cities’ Fall Parade of Homes, scheduled for Sept. 10 through Oct. 2, features 278 model homes, down from 331 homes a year ago, 325 in 2009 and 497 in 2008.
The much-publicized Parade of Homes is a barometer for the health of the homebuilding market. In 2006, when the market was at its peak, 1,210 homes were shown off in the fall Parade — more than four times as many as this year.
