Land Claims Hinder Taos Real Estate Market

While warranty deeds for two Taosarea land grants continue to hinder local real estate deals, there are signs that the uncertainty is harming Taos’ reputation among prospective buyers in an already struggling economy.

Last year, two warranty deeds were filed with the Taos County Clerk laying claim to about 42,000 acres within the boundaries of two Taos-area land grants.

The deeds purport to pass ownership of the Arroyo Hondo and Cristobal de la Serna land grants to their respective boards of trustees and the unnamed heirs of the original settlers of both grants.
