IN: August Home Sales in Indianapolis Highest in Two Years

Indiana Gay Real EstateLow mortgage rates, affordable prices and perhaps growing consumer confidence combined to lift August home sales in the Indianapolis area to late-summer levels not seen in two years.

The 2,308 home sales in the 13-county metro area, 33.5 percent more than last year, were the most in August since the recession year of 2008, when almost 2,500 homes were sold. Realtor groups pointed to the numbers as a sign that their industry might be regaining its footing after three dismal years.

“We are in the middle of a sustained, moderate recovery in housing” in the metro area, said David Caveness, senior vice president at Carpenter Realtors. He dates the bottom of the housing downturn to October 2010, assuming the current recovery continues.
