Washington, D.C. earned the top spot despite the fact that “rents are high, and home prices haven’t adjusted much over the course of the Great Recession,” the report on Yahoo! said. Average rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the capital was $1,736 per month and $1,744 for a two-bedroom flat.
But salaries tend to keep pace with costs, and “not surprisingly, the federal government is the biggest employer in the city,” the report said. “With plenty of job opportunities and cultural attractions, it’s no wonder Washington is number one on the list,” it added.
