HGTV network’s “House Hunters International” will air an episode on Monday featuring former Washington, D.C. residents Ivan and Devin, a married gay bi-national couple forced to move to Colombia after Ivan’s work visa expired.
“Ivan and Devin, built a life together in DC: they worked jobs they loved, shared their home with their beloved dog and exchanged wedding vows,” the show says on its site. “But when Ivan’s work visa expired, he had no other choice but to head back to his native Bogota, Colombia with his American husband, Devin, and their dog, Danger.”
In a post on its site, Immigration Equality highlighted the impact that the Defense of Marriage Act has on married same-sex bi-national couples like Ivan and Devin, whom federal immigration law consider legal strangers.
