South Carolina Real EstateHome sales are humming along in Columbia and in most parts of the state. But some rural areas still are struggling with laggings sales, according to a report Monday.

“We’re just banging it out right now. There’s just so much pent-up demand,” said David Patterson, an agent with Keller Williams Realty in Columbia.

Sales jumped 20 percent to 716 in Columbia in May, compared to the same month last year, according to the S.C. Realtors trade group report. The median price of homes sold in the Columbia area – the point at which half sold for more and half for less — slipped nearly 5 percent to $138,795.
