Two prominent blocks in Hillcrest are up for sale to the highest bidders, and the purchasers will have the ability to transform the heart of the gayborhood.
In September, a 25,000-square-foot property that includes the shuttered Pernicano’s and Casa de Baffi restaurants went on sale for $12 million. The site is on the west side of Sixth Avenue between University and Robinson avenues.
And in November comes word that an adjacent block on the east side of Sixth Avenue, between Robinson and Pennsylvania avenues, has gone on the market for $18.5 million. The block houses several restaurants and shops as well as a 76 gas station.
Both properties are key locations in Hillcrest: The northern end of Sixth Avenue connects to Highway 163 (aka Cabrillo Freeway) into Mission Valley and parts north, the southern direction of Sixth Avenue follows the western edge of Balboa Park and heads into downtown San Diego.
