Lovely – a Florida condo association is specifically barring same sex couples from buying a home in the project. On Top Magazine reports:

Casa Di Amici Condo in Venice adopted the restriction in July. It states that only single people or couples legally married as “husband and wife” can purchase a home. “Sales limited to individual or husband and wife,” the document states. “I could not believe what I was reading,” Julia Nowak, a gay realtor, told Tampa Bay CBS affiliate WTSP. “It basically says you have to be either a single person or a husband and wife to purchase a unit here.”

This reminds me of the time Mark and I bought our condo, and looked through all the documentation the bank gives you, only to find that at one time, 40 or 50 years before, African Americans were explicitly banned from living on the property, “except in the capacity of a domestic servant.” I suspect history will look back at incidents like this just as unkindly.

Even worse, an attorney quoted in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune indicates he has seen similar rules in 5%-10% of “the ones [he] worked”. And he didn’t sound like he approved of these rules. If he’s on the mark, how big has this problem grown before anybody called it out?
