The North Texas housing market started 2012 with a boost in pre-owned home purchases. Pre-owned home sales in January rose 14 percent in the area while prices were flat from a year earlier. January was the seventh month in a row that home sales in North Texas were higher than the year before.
Local real estate agents sold 3,769 single-family homes through their multiple listing service. It was the highest number of January home sales since 2008, when the recession began, according to data released Wednesday by the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University and North Texas Real Estate Information Systems.
Most neighborhoods saw annual increases in sales last month; Lancaster increased 30 percent and North Dallas had 28 percent more sales than a year ago.
