About Gay Lexington, Virginia:
Lexington is located in Rockbridge County, named for Natural Bridge, a rock bridge in the southern part of the County. Rockbridge County was home to Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson and Robert E. Lee, inventor Cyrus McCormick, and pioneer Sam Houston. The county has 607 sq. miles of varied landscapes. There are two small, incorporated towns, Glasgow and Goshen, as well as the cities of Lexington and Buena Vista.
Lexington was named for the town in Massachusetts town where the Revolution started, became a town in 1778, and was finally made a city in 1966. The city has two well-known institutions - Virginia Military Institute, and Washington and Lee University.
Buena Vista, on the other hand, grew from a small town to a city with over 5,200 residents in the late 1800's, as part of a local land boom, becoming a city in 1892. Buena Vista is still an industrial town, and is also home to Southern Virginia University.
