Ten US Cities Ripe for a Real Estate Turn-Around

Jan 23rd, 2012

Lately economists and investors have been debating whether the housing market has hit bottom. It's a complicated picture on a national level, but zoom in and it's possible to identify cities that have not only reached a bottom, but are beginning to experience a recovery. Take San Jose, Calif. The Golden State has gotten a lot of attention for its economic... read_more

Foreclosures Increasing in Pipeline in Many States

Jan 16th, 2012

The number of homes in the foreclosure pipeline is increasing in states including New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, where the process is slowed by courts, as Arizona, California and Nevada digest their backlog. Home loans that were delinquent or in foreclosure fell in three states hit hard by the housing market collapse, dropping 19% in Nevada, 21% in California and... read_more

Rising Delinquencies Endanger the New York City Real Estate Market

Nov 5th, 2011

New York is the largest city and the most misunderstood housing market in the nation. Sellers think that the market in New York has held up rather well and ask a lot for their property. Most buyers look at the listing price, laugh and just walk away. The result has been very low sales volume at prices that... read_more

Brooklyn's Gayest District Missing that Gay Vibe

Apr 28th, 2011

The Columbia Street Waterfront District in Brooklyn boasts sweeping views of lower Manhattan, pleasant low-rise architecture and even a live poultry market. But it doesn't have a single gay bar. Nor do rainbow-hued flags flutter outside the cafe, the antique shop or any of the other new businesses dotting the neighborhood's main thoroughfare. And, for the record, there are no plans... read_more

The West 70's - The Suburbs of Manhattan

Apr 8th, 2011

WHEN Paul Kahn was growing up on the Upper West Side in the 1980s, he recalled recently, it was pleasant and livable but a neighborhood that might seem surprising in hindsight. There were some blocks his parents didn't let him walk on; many children, himself included, went to private school; and his Little League, which drew from both the Upper... read_more

Brooklyn's Gayest Neighborhood

Apr 4th, 2011

Suck it, Park Slope! According to new Census data, the highest percentage of same-sex couples can be found in the Columbia Street Waterfront District--not a real neighborhood, but a real census tract, from Atlantic Avenue to Degraw Street, from Columbia Street to the BQE--where 11 percent of 549 households identify as same-sex, the Brooklyn Paper reports. That number trounces those... read_more

At Gay Realty Network, we list gay friendly real estate professionals all across the United States.

New York State offers a widely varied geography, from the Great Appalachian Valley in the east and the glacial Finger Lakes in the middle of the state, to the Catskill and Adirondack Mountains in the east. New York is bounded by Lake Ontario on the northwest, and the Atlantic Ocean on the southeast.

New York City is the largest city in the state and in the United States, with over 8 million people, and is the financial powerhouse of the country, as well as a major hub for fashion, culture, and manufacturing. It has also been the historic gateway for immigration to the US, with millions entering the country through Ellis Island and seeing the Statue of Liberty, our nation's foremost symbol of liberty. New York City is also one of the great gay capitals of the country, with a huge gay and lesbian population, one of the largest Pride celebrations in the world, New York has several predominantly gay neighborhoods - Chelsea, Greenwich Village and the East Village.

Albany is the state capitol, and sits on the west bank of the Hudson River. Albany offers a small town feel in the beautiful Hudson River Valley, and has several gay bedroom communities, including Troy, Hudson, and Saratoga Springs, which performed gay weddings in 2004 against state law. For gay Albany nightlife, check out Lark Street or Downtown.

If you like things Big and Bold, New York City might be the place for you - but if you like things more peaceful and quiet, check out what Upstate New York has to offer.

At Gay Realty Network, we know from experience how important having gay or gay friendly real estate agent can be, especially when it's time to make an offer and fill out a contract. Having an agent that knows the difference between having joint tenancy or holding a property as tenants in common, who understands gay/lesbian families and our own unique real estate needs and challenges, and who can help you find the gay friendly neighborhoods in your area where you and your friends and family will feel comfortable is invaluable.
