Vermont's real estate market continues to struggle, but not as badly as those in most other states, Kavet and Carr said. Housing prices in Vermont in the third quarter of 2011 were 2.9 percent lower than the same quarter in 2007, but in Nevada they were down 50.8 percent.

Sales are stagnant and prices are mostly down for single-family homes and condominiums in southern New Hampshire and eastern Massachusetts, according to the Northeast Association of Realtors.
