Founded in 1890 with the name Urbanrest, Ferndale was then and is now one of the handsomest Detroit suburbs. The tree-lined streets, summer little league and adult softball games, and a community involved in local organizations and city government are reminiscent of historic small-town America. Community pride is at the center of this city’s success.
Hundreds of Ferndale citizens volunteer on city government committees and the many social and support groups in the area. Individuality and entrepreneurship are encouraged. Neighbors know one another and support the local shops and businesses. Education is held in esteem, the city is home to Ferndale Montessori Center, and a majority of city residents hold college degrees. With 10 city parks, there’s plenty of public green space for sports, picnics, and events.
As a Detroit suburb, Ferndale enjoys the availability of attractions and events afforded a metropolitan center such as museums, concerts, sporting events, and the area’s other recreational opportunities.
