Washington DC Real Estate Market, Economy Among Strongest in Country

Dec 23rd, 2011

The U.S. Congress is a masterpiece of dysfunction, but it's surrounded by perhaps the highest-functioning metro area in the nation. Washington, D.C., is the richest city in the country. It's the best-educated, too. The district is growing faster than any other U.S. state and at three times the national average. Post-recession home prices are faring better than practically any other... read_more

Often foreclosures, these properties... read_more

Maryland is one of the backyard's for the nation's capitol, Washington DC, and has close to 6 million residents. The state boasts the highest median household income in the United States, and is a Biotech industry hub. Maryland may also legalize gay marriage soon, after the success of the marriage equality movement in neighboring Washington DC.

Annapolis is the capitol of Maryland. It's small by state capital standards, with just 36,000 residents, and sits on beautiful Chesapeake Bay. Annapolis has an annual Pride Festival and several gay owned inns.

Baltimore is Maryland's largest city, with over 600K residents, and also straddles an inlet of Chesapeake Bay - the tidal part of the Patapsco River. Baltimore is the home of the great gay fillmaker John Waters, and the site of most of his films. Known as a "city of neighborhoods", Baltimore has more than 300 districts, including Mount Vernon, widely considered to be Baltimore's gay neighborhood. The city has recently redeveloped its Inner Harbor into a trendy tourist district. Baltimore has a very active gay community.

If you're looking for mid-Atlantic charm and very gay friendly cities and policies, Maryland might be ideal for you!

At Gay Realty Network, we know from experience how important having gay or gay friendly real estate agent can be, especially when it's time to make an offer and fill out a contract. Having an agent that knows the difference between having joint tenancy or holding a property as tenants in common, who understands gay/lesbian families and our own unique real estate needs and challenges, and who can help you find the gay friendly neighborhoods in your area where you and your friends and family will feel comfortable is invaluable.
