Rehoboth Beach, Delaware's Gay Community Growing

Apr 8th, 2012

Each year, Steve Elkins looks at a room full of Rehoboth Beach summer police officers and asks if anyone knows someone who's gay. No one used to raise a hand, said Elkins, founder of a nonprofit gay and lesbian community organization. But last year, when he asked the question, someone called out: "I'm gay." Then, Elkins said, someone else said: "I'm not,... read_more

Foreclosures Still a Drag on Delaware's Real Estate Market

September Home Sales Grew While Prices Fell in Delaware

Oct 13th, 2011

A more realistic view of the market by both buyers and sellers boosted home sales across the state this summer, even as prices continued to show the impact of foreclosures and other short sales, real estate professionals said Tuesday. At Gay Realty Network, we list gay friendly real estate professionals all across the United States.

Delaware is the second smallest state in the USA, with only three counties, and around 900K inhabitants. The southern state is more agriculturally based, while industry rules in the north. Delaware is a very flat state, and at its highest point is only 450 feet above sea level.

Delaware's arguably gayest city is Rehoboth Beach, a resort town on Delaware's southern coast. Located between Washington DC, Baltimore and Philadelphia, it's a popular summer getaway - its population of about 1,500 swells to over 50,000 in the summer months. Rehoboth Beach has more than two hundred gay-owned businesses, and a very cruisy beach. There isn't a segregated gay nightlife here because we're everywhere in this town.

Wilmington is Delaware's largest city, with over 70,000 residents, and sits on the banks of the Christine River 25 miles downstream from Philadelphia. Wilmington is a national center for much of the credit card industry.

If you're looking for a place on the mid-Atlantic seaboard with easy access to DC, Baltimore, and Philadelphia, Delaware may be ideal for you.

At Gay Realty Network, we know from experience how important having gay or gay friendly real estate agent can be, especially when it's time to make an offer and fill out a contract. Having an agent that knows the difference between having joint tenancy or holding a property as tenants in common, who understands gay/lesbian families and our own unique real estate needs and challenges, and who can help you find the gay friendly neighborhoods in your area where you and your friends and family will feel comfortable is invaluable.
