Looking for Gay Laguna Beach, California Real Estate?
The city of Laguna Beach is a unique beach community and artist’s colony blessed with a landscape defined by 7 miles of platinum sand public beaches, swaying palms, gentle surf, canyons, and coastal hills. Sometimes called SoHo-by-the-Sea, it’s located about halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego.
The essence of Laguna Beach has altered little since the arrival of the plein-air artists more than a century ago. The town and its residents have eschewed the notion of over-development and blatant commercialism, staying true to their roots as an artist and eco-friendly community. In a time when communities are flooded with big-box retailers and chain restaurants, Laguna Beach prides itself on its collection of independently owned stores, restaurants, and galleries. During the summer, several million visitors are drawn to the resort environment for its picturesque beaches, art festivals, and the Pageant of the Masters. Laguna Beach’s bluff top walkways and tram system create a pedestrian environment unique in Southern California.
From its incorporation as a city in 1927, preservation and forward planning played a role in maintaining a character attractive to residents, visitors, and Hollywood film producers. This Laguna Beach Greenbelt Plan is designed to preserve the city’s surrounding natural environment from further development. Consequently, the city and private citizens have purchased as much open space as possible. These principles help maintain the community’s village character for both residents and visitors in spite of growth and commercialism.
Bette Davis, Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Judy Garland, and Douglas Fairbanks are just of few of the city’s historic residents who have fancied the serenity of Laguna Beach. Today’s celebrities are no different. Heather Locklear, Richie Sambora, and Bette Midler are just a few of the stars calling Laguna Beach home today. Others among the rich and famous can be spotted at the Surf & Sand Hotel, Zinc Café, and the Sawdust Festival.
