Renting in Toronto's Gay Village

May 14th, 2011

It's the kind of day photographers love. A soft, grey, late afternoon light gives the view of downtown Toronto from Sonja Scharf and Kelly Kyle's south-facing, 20-by-20 foot deck a haunting glow reminiscent of photographer Bret Culp's show, currently featured in the gallery at their year-old business, Akasha Art Projects, a framing and installation shop on Church St. at Wellesley... read_more

At Gay Realty Network, we list gay friendly real estate professionals all across Canada and the Canadian Provinces.

Ontario is a huge canadian province in East-Central Canada that borders on both Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Like most of Canada's southern provinces, Ontario has two distinct regions - the heavily forested northern region, and the heavily populated southern one, where Ontario's arable land is found.

Toronto is Ontario's largest city, and has a well-deserved reputation as one of the most gay friendly cities in gay friendly Canada. With more than 5 million inhabitants in the greater Toronto region, the city is truly a metropolis, with a large gay village at Church and Wellesley as well as the Queer West Village. Toronto was where the US version of Queer as Folk was filmed, standing in for Pittsburgh, PA. Toronto also has a large annual Pride Parade in early July.

Ontario is also known for its second largest city,k Ottawa, the seat of the Provincial Government, with more than a million people in the greater Ottawa region. Ottawa is renowned for its beautiful architecture, and was recently named one of the cleanest cities in the world. Ottawa is home to a sizeable number of foreign-born residents, and while the population is majority English-speaking, there's a large French-speaking population as well.

Ontario is also home to Niagara Falls, a cheesy tourist trap on the US side, but still a stunningly beautiful natural feature. In Western Ontario, you'll find many cute towns set amid beautiful farmlands.

If you're looking for a truly international city surrounded by natural beauty, consider Toronto's real estate and the Province of Ontario.

At Gay Realty Network, we know from experience how important having gay or gay friendly real estate agent can be, especially when it's time to make an offer and fill out a contract. Having an agent that knows the difference between having joint tenancy or holding a property as tenants in common, who understands gay/lesbian families and our own unique real estate needs and challenges, and who can help you find the gay friendly neighborhoods in your area where you and your friends and family will feel comfortable is invaluable.
