GayRealtyNetwork.com started as an offshoot of our original travel directory - PurpleRoofs.com. Several of our innkeepers were also real estate agents, and asked us to start a section for them on the site, to help them reach some of the travelers who came to their areas and decided they wanted to make the move permanent.
We started the site in Fall of 2001, listing agents on the Purple Roofs site and on FindAGayProfessional.com. Our original thought was to create a directory of all kinds of gay and lesbian and gay friendly professionals - real estate agents, doctors, dentists, lawyers, etc. After about 6 months, though, we saw the writing on the wall - of perhaps 50 listings, 49 were real estate agents, and we had one dentist.
So we refocused our efforts around the real estate markets and GayRealtyNetwork.com was born. In the Spring of 2004, we added Mortgage Lenders to the mix, and we now list over 750 real estate professionals in the US, Canada, Mexico, Spain, Italy, and the Caribbean, making us one of the largest directories of our kind.
Unlike some of the other gay/lesbian realty sites, we are database driven, and offer both an easy-to-use map interface and a database search function to help folks find our listed realtors. Our rates are about half what our competitors charge - our overhead is low, and we have a number of directories, so we're not overly dependent on any one site for income.
